Why are galaxies colliding while the universe is expanding?

If the universe is expanding, why are some galaxies running into each other and form bigger galaxies? Shouldn't they be running away from each other instead, since the universe is expanding?

Could someone explain or point me to some articles so I can read more on this? Thanks.
