Why are Ex-Liberals more likely to figure out American Politics is a dog-and-pony show

on both sides? My theory is that Cons have a level of nationalism so strong that no amount of truth can ever get some of them to put down their flags and question their own country. Which sadly is exactly what the founding fathers were trying to avoid.
