Why is it that if a black person is educated, and doesn't commit crimes he or she is called an uncle tom, but if a white person does the same he or she is praised?
If they are called toms it is only by other blacks. There seems to be a culture of some blacks that feel doing anything "white" is a slap in the face. Those blacks are stupid in that they don't recognize that those blacks trying to better themselves will have a better and more productive life. I'm hoping that those who feel that way are a small minority as I see more and more blacks who are middle class (and good for them) and some who are high class. I imagine it's hard to break that glass ceiling though. This is just my take on it and since I'm white I could be way off base. I'm basing my opinions on what I've read in TIME magazine and comments I've heard from some blacks. It will be interesting to read the responses you receive from blacks.
No one should be praised for NOT committing a crime or going to jail. You are not suppose to be there lol. A good education take hard work and everyone shoudl be praised for working above average.
in some cases no one is quicker to knock another black person down than another black person....
as for your comment of if it is a white person doing well they are praised......by whom??? other whites? sometimes that is the case but if you are implying that a black person would praise them you are sadly mistaken, often a black person will say they have ONLY got to that point because they are white and NOT because the white person has worked hard, studied hard etc. something that EVERY ONE can do.
Really? Currently Lil Wayne in enrolled at the University of Houston and Lil Romeo is enrolled at USC (University of Southern California). Queen Latifah went to Rutgers University along with Bill Bellamy, Mae Jemison received her BS from Stanford and doctorates from various different colleges and universities and various fields. The list goes on of cool Black folk who attended college and has degrees..These people are hardly Uncle Toms. In fact some of the most radical Black people are highly educated.
