P Paul Edwards Guest Feb 23, 2009 #4 Hey there. Ducatis tend to have higher compression ratios, which mean more power per stroke. Also, they make quite non-standard engine sizes as has been stated, not many sports bike manufacturers make engines like the 1098cc. Hope this helps.

They compete thier 848 with 600cc, and their 1098 with the Japanese 1000ccs. They have an 1198 as well. VTwins used to boast more torque, but with Yamaha's new crossplane crankshaft making massive torque without sacrificing top end, Ducati is in trouble.
