Advertisements are shown on TV for medications that can only be prescribed by doctor. I find this trend of Rx medication ads very disturbing. All the time TV ads are full of Rx meds. They say, "talk to your doctor about this medication". My question is that isn't the doctor supposed to know what medication to prescribe or what not to prescribe? He has great deal of knowledge. Why should he be told by a medically illiterate patient what to be prescribed? That's like patient becoming his own doctor? and that is wrong. Why does the US government even allow this in the first place? Its not allowed in Europe, Japan, Australia, etc etc for drug companies to put their ads on TV.
Why are drug companies allowed to give prescription ads on TV?
