Why Are Cineworld Claiming Avatar Is Sold Out?

hmm just a theory but maybe it wasn't sold out but they had ran out of 3d glasses, i'm guessing there's always a scenario when that could happen

We sell out shows when a certain percentage of seats are sold. There can be anything from 30-6 seats left in a sold out show, depending on the screen size. The reason being by that stage there are generaly only single seats left, and most people want to sit together.

Even at the sold out stage with 30 seats left, the last customers to arrive always complain that there are 'no seats left', when they mean there are are there are no double/triple/whatever seats left where they can sit together. If we sold out completely, it would be chaos as I've found most people would rather get a refund than sit seperately.

As far as 3D films go, yes often there are less glasses than seats. At my location the glasses are expensive and security becomes an issue. With a screen size of 170 we sell out at 150, even then the glasses issued to customers comes to a value of

In terms of 3D reproduction, XpanD is probably one of the best around.

It is mostly independent's that have this system in the UK at least. We were one of the first to install it in the UK. For the customer it's a first class 3D system. For the operator, It's a nightmare.

I went inro Cineworld this afternoon, the same one I went to see Avatar on Januwy 16th which I started this thread about. bearing in mind that three weeks have passed since then and what happened before they are still claiming that every showing is sold out! Why are they conrtinuing to do this? It wasnt really sold out a month ago. It surely cant be now.

My question to the OP is - did you see it in 2D or 3D without glasses? I just wondered, as if it was 3D, you wouldn't have had the glasses...

I did have 3D glasses with me. if you bring your own to Cineworld they dont chatge an extra 80p for a new pair of glasses. just the extra

i often go to cineworld and see sold out signs on times of films but when i ask they tell me its not sold out, its just the time board hasn't been changed since an occasion when it did sell out.
Are these screenings of Avatar always at the same time? maybe they sold out once and the board never got changed afterwarRAB?

I was lucky to get to see it on IMAX. They had room on a Tuesday afternoon screening. All the night ones are fully booked and they're dumping it for Alice in Wonderland in March.

The timeboard broke down months ago. They have never repaired it! So the Avatar sold out signs are on pieces of paper stuck to the sales booths. I have been to the cinema twice this week and you geuessed it. Every screening of Avatar was sold out!! As usual! Even though it probably isnt!

Went to see Avatar at Parkway cinema in Cleethorpes on Sunday night, surprised it was empty, only about 20 others in there, maybe the cinema wasn't some folks idea of a Valentines night out.

Maccy D's for supper on the seafront afterwarRAB. :D

Great movie and excellent effects (digital 3D)

As someone else has said, cinemas never sell every single seat in the auditorium for several reasons.

First of allif you sell every seat, you can absolutley guarentee your going to be issuing lots of refunRAB. People come out claiming theres "no seats left" when there always are. The trouble is, because they arrived late there are only single seats. It always amazes me how rude some people get about this, as if its your fault they can't sit together. Perhaps if you turned up before the time it says on your ticket rather than 15 minutes aftere you would get decent seats

Secondly, whilst we try our absolute best to ensure that every person in the screen has a valid ticket for that screening, it is near enough impossible to absolutley guarentee it. Sadly people, such as the OP think it's okay to go into a screen they've not paid for (Avatar 3D would have been more expensive than the Book of Eli by the way... theft basically) and of course if we haven't spotted them going in, it's pretty much too late. It would cause even more of a problem if we then had to go into the screen as the movie was starting to check every single person in a 500+ capacity auditorium's tickets.

Thirdly, a couple are also kept just in case we make a mistake or something goes wrong with out system. It's only happened once since ive worked at Vue, but some internet bookings got messed up and we ended up selling more tickets than we were supposed to. Fortunantly the extra seats were there so we just about managed to squeeze everyone in.

Also, are you sure there wern't any empty premier/gold class seats?
