Why are christians in the military who are prepared to kill if ordered to?

Didn't Jesus teach to love your enemy and love your neighbor?

Is there a christian scripture that makes all that exempt?
Thanks Bryant but Moses only killed one person out of anger at a slave being beaten. God told Moses and Joshua ect to fight. Is God telling Bush or Obama to go and fight too?
I mean when the Israellites went to war with God's blessing then God fought on their side. I do not recount Isrealittes dying in battle in these cases. Yet in wars in recent history millions have died for their country.

So what has gone wrong with the christian stance of fighting for your country when God is not fighting for us?

Well you see this is number 1042 of the list of christian hypocisy. They basically say "Killing is wrong...unless your government tells you to.."

If a man rapes your child and you kill him, they call it murder. But if the government orders you into a foriegn land to kill a man that never raised a hand to you, that is honorable and noble.

But the reality is it is all about PR> Religions that are not fiercely nationalistic, don't thrive. So in order to thrive, christians had to become hyper patriotic, endorse war, etc.

John 3:16 lays out the way to get to Heaven and it says you have to believe in Jesus. There are plenty of examples of sinners in the Bible that repent and are allowed into Heaven. Even the worst people in society, seriel killers moments before their date with the execution chamber, usually have a preacher with them reading scripture and praying with them, so obviously there is hope no matter what the sin is. I certainly don't want to see as though I'm comparing soldiers to serial killers though, so hopefully my words aren't hurtful, but I'm just saying that no matter what your sin may be, God will forgive if you accept Him, so says John 3:16.
