M MACer New member Jan 11, 2010 #1 Apple MAC OS X (Retail version) can only be installed on It's official laptops i.e iMac, MacBook etc. so why has apple had this restriction that the Operating Systems full features can only be used if you install MAC OS X on their official laptops?

D David D New member Jan 11, 2010 #2 OS X is a loss leader. Its purpose is to help sell Apple computers, not generate profit in its own right. (And it would cost Apple a lot to make it compatible with a wide selection of generic PC hardware)
