You might be putting too much pressure on yourself. I have a Master's degree in English/Creative writing and a Master's of Fine Art degree in poetry, and I stumble over simple things like addressing a loved one on a holiday card. So you are normal, it's extremely hard to write a beautiful poem for a loved on in part because it means so much to us. Here's a couple of possible solutions. 1 just focus on a wonderful event that the two of you shared together and write a narrative (a poem telling a story) poem about the event. This will help you focus on the details of the event and on him, rather then letting your mind bounce all over the place. 2 try to lighten up on yourself, does it really have to be the best poem ever? taking some of the self pressure off might help you find clarity. 3 isolate and explore a feeling or feelings. What is it like when you are eating dinner, or how do you feel when he holds your hand... I would use simple language and focus on an event or something you shared. I would not use the word "love", rather I would try to show through action or an event that love is present. Maybe the main thing is just to know that a lot of poets struggle in the area because we put to Much pressure on ourselves. So relax and just go for writing a decent poem, it doesn't have to be great, for him to think your great. good luck

Write down 20 things you love about him.
Write down 20 words you feel when you think about him.
Write down 20 words you feel when you see him.

Take all of that, and make something amazing.

"When I see you my heart starts to ____________
and I can't take my eyes off of you.
You mean so much to me, every time our hands touch it drives me __________

How did I ever become such a lucky girl?
To have the one who loves her in her world...

see? It's easy.

Don't pressure yourself, poetry is all about letting your heart out on paper. take your time, be alone,

Think about everything that you two have been through, the love you share, the care and the affection.

Think about what you want to tell him, what you feel when he's not there etc.. etc..

Once you do that, you will be ready to write.
