Why am I getting terrible alternator whine?

I put a 12 in my car, plays fine, way underpowered but its only getting about 300 watts of power and im getting whine everytime the bass hits which is really starting to bug me. Why am i getting this noise on a system that cant even be heard outside of the car?
sub makes a "bassy sound" when i change songs
