Hi, I'm 14 and for the past few years I've been sleeping with the TV on. I feel like I waste electricity and am becoming dependent on the TV. Which, I am.
When I sleep with the TV on, it lets me drown out my thoughts and relax, however I can't sleep with the radio on. I think it might be because music actually wakes me up before I've been trained to listen to the tones and pitches(I'm a music student) TV doesn't bother my sleeping at all.
I've heard that having a TV on while you sleep disrupts your sleeping patterns, but I've never had any trouble with it. Like I said before, it sort of lulls me to sleep.
However, when I am at a sleepover I cane easily fall asleep without a TV on. So I'm not really understanding why I must sleep with a TV on at home, but I'm fine when I'm with someone else.
Whenever I don't have the TV on, it makes me stressed out because of all the background noises I can hear and my thoughts just start running wild.
So basically, my questions are is it normal to need to listen to TV as you fall asleep? Why do I not need the TV when I am with someone else? And what else can I do, besides the radio, to fall asleep without a TV?
And, just so you know. Though it may sound stupid, I'm afraid of the dark.
