Who's going to watch Star Trek when it comes out?

Saw it this afternoon and it was fantastic, very fast paced, full of action, characters were spot on complete with baddie, i hope they do more with this cast so cant wait for the next installment.
 
I am not a big Trek fan, but this movie does look very good. I think that I will probably wait for the rush to die down a bit before I go and see it.
 
went to the 00:01 showing at the Imax this morning, have to say that I don't think i could have made a better choice for my first Imax flik, let the nay sayers be damned, this is an excellent reboot to the franchise, the film tore strips off both Wrath of Khan and fist contact. Well worth a 140 mile round trip
 
I'm going to the 11am at the nearest Odeon tomorrow morning, as long as I wake up and get there in time. It's a 20 mile drive.

I should be really excited at the prospect of finally getting to see this film, but I'm just not. I don't know why. When the final trailer came out in March, I was welling up. But that's all gone now.
 
Have to wait til next Tuesday, as I've got exams. But the fact I'm going to see it at the IMAX at the Glasgow Science Centre probably makes up for that.

Can't wait!!!
 
Absolutely fantastic film. Out of all of the actors I would have to highlight the guy who plays McCoy, he was fantastic in the role. my casting niggle would be Simon Pegg. We even had an obligatory 'red shirt' ;-)
 
Saw it today @ 12:30 with my brother who's not really a trekkie like I am.

Im a huge trekkie but I felt little meh about it. Not quite as epic as I thought the "star wars" space battles were a disappointment. Hardly any length on them. Apart from the first space battle which was good.

Felt the characters very intertwined into the plot without giving many of them depth.
Alot of the futurist scenes had a shake, blurring look (maybe the blurring was because of the cinema but pay attention to the eyes on spock prime)

It felt more of a pilot for a series.
 
Have got seats booked for Friday at the IMAX in Manchester....am not a massive Star Trek fan but do like the films, the trailer for this looks amazing though!
 
In a word, brilliant! Don't think twice about seeing this, there's something for absolutely everyone here.

I 100% buy the new cast as the old characters. Chris Pine is so good as Kirk, he's the new cocky young hero for a new generation. I loved the scenes with him and Karl Urban as McCoy. They ARE Kirk and McCoy, and that frienRABhip was great to see. Then you've got Zach Quinto doing a mesmerising job as young Spock. Pitch perfect performance, and showing more layers than Spock has ever had before. Special mention should go to Zoe Saldana as Uhura. This girl is way talented and should be a huge star by now. It's her time right now! Great chemistry with both Kirk and, er, someone else who I won't mention because it's a bit spoilery!

The action and CG is second to none. It's all done in the more modern style of insane closeups and shakey cam, but that just makes for more of a mad ride, and you're in no danger of thinking of it as a TV show. That was probably Abrams's aim from the start. This is definitely the most filmic Trek ever.
 
I really enjoyed the film and can't wait for the next installment. However it doesn't beat The Wrath of Khan in my opinion, though with this cast and the right script they will take that crown one day :eek:
 
I'd never done it before until Watchmen earlier this year, when the screening was also 00.01.

Okay ... Star Trek and Watchmen. I sound like a fanboy :o
 
Oh, this was most definitely the first of n. The story is mainly to introduce how these characters first met but also paves the way for future plots without being hampered by the previous tv series / movies. A great start with even better things to come!
 
I am in exactly the same place as you. :)

Big fan, and am anxious about the mistakes already reported on many sites.

But, until I see it for myself, I can not comment on it. :)
 
I thought the general consensus was that the film takes place in an alternate time line, so any mistakes made with established Trek canon are rendered moot.

As long as Abrams Trek stays within this timeline, JJ can do what the hell he likes without buggering up canon.

If the film's, at the very least, an enjoyable romp, and makes back its budget at the box office, the die harRAB will have to accept that Abrams Trek is better than No Trek.
 
Just came back and I have to say it's a great film and it will appeal to the mainstream public and most Trekkies and have to say this is the first Star Trek with a proper budget and it does show with the beginning sequence of The USS Kelvin and the Narada and most shots of the Enterprise. The cast fitted in their roles quite nicely especially Chris Pine as Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock and Karl Urban as McCoy although I wasn't so keen on Chekov as the accent was a little over the top.

A sequel would be good especially if they introduce the Klingons, a new race or even The Borg although I think The Borg are more associated with The Next Generation and Voyager.
 
Saw it at 3pm at the BFI IMAX in London, first time at an IMAX. Was blown away, great film AND great picture and sound. Don't ever want to go back to a normal cinema again!
