Who's going stronger RIGHT NOW, South Park or Family Guy?

Definitley South Park, if not just for it's awesome, awesome 200/201 two-parter. The Stewie & Brian Family Guy episode was great, but otherwise nothing in it has really interested me as much as the Season 1-4 episodes, plus the Stewie Kills Lois two-parter.

Yeah no. That's exactly the kind of attitude that leads someone to love one show and detest the other. Now before before someone says that's hypocritical of me, I want to stress that I do like South Park as a whole. I just hate what it's become.

It's possible to be a fan of both shows and enjoy "Cartoon Wars". I did. But I think it's sickening how many people blindly began attacking Family Guy once that episode aired, as if it was their duty to dislike something just because they saw it attacked on South Park.

The same can be said for Family Guy as well. There's been a few episodes that I didn't laugh once. I don't think it's nearly as funny as it was 4 years ago. Both shows are past their prime, but overall I like South Park better.

I was kinda leaving it as a joke, that it is how some people see Cartoon Wars. But one can like both series while still loving Cartoon Wars. It is like laughing at yourself. If you love Family Guy and South Park, you should be able to see both can be laughed at by how stupid they really are.

No offense, but I liked the cutaways on Family Guy. Without them, it doesn't seem as funny. I don't have cable, so I can't put a word in on South Park.

If you want to watch it, all the episodes are online.

That is probably the only thing about South Park that I like more than Family Guy: There are more than 5 episodes available at a time on the internet.

LOL, there are still 3 episodes you cannot see online of South Park, episodes "Super Best Friends" and "200" and "201". I do not think they will ever be able to stream them.

Golfkid, you can see almost all of the South Park episodes here (but it is always better to buy DVD box sets, as seen with the above episodes)

A mediocre episode of South Park is better than any episode of Family Guy, especially recently.

Also the South Park guys do a good job of making me actually care about those characters and what happens to them. Honestly, "201" had me on my seat waiting to see who Cartman's real father is. It's a very well structured show, even at its weaker episodes.

Family Guy on the other hand... I can't bring myself to care about anything that happens on that show. And I can't stand the way it makes references instead of telling jokes.

Trey & Matt have said that they don't let "gag writers" stick around their writers room, and that they feel it's very important to keep characters consistent and never have a character do something they feel wouldn't break character.

Apparently, "Scott Tenorman Must Die" was tossed around for a long time because there was much arguing over whether the ending fit Cartman's character, they eventually decided that it would benefit the show developing Cartman's evil side.

I say South Park, and I'll explain why.

Matt and Trey are doing South Park on their own terms. The show represents their beliefs, values, fears, prejudices and loves. Making that show could be seen as cathartic for them. Getting what they feel out there on television keeps them from obsessing over it in their heads. And when they aren't poking cruelly at hypocritical liberals (more on that below), the episodes are surprisingly joyful and poignant. Think of when Butters talked how much he loved life at the end of "Raisins" or the entire episode "Breast Cancer Show". That to me is true art: getting your feelings out there and not seconding guessing yourself. What Matt and Trey say I may not always agree with, but I respect their freedom to speak it with clarity.

Family Guy, on the other hand, is made by committee. So many hands play a part in its writing and development, you often never know how a joke was meant to be received. So, it's possible that genuinely hateful messages may slipped in. Think about it. South Park saves its venom for hypocritical "role models" (I must say that the very notion of a movie actor or director being a role model for the masses is something most artists aren't up to, and as a result, idol worship is in a way suffocating America), but when it comes to more genuinely sensitive issues, it usually comes off more lighthearted (and before anyone asks, "Cripple Fight" was more about the hypocrisies regarding the "politically correct" treatment of homosexuals and force-fed "pro-social messages" than it was about two crippled kids beating it other up. That's the thing about South Park, it challenges it's audience). But Family Guy is at its most vicious attacking etchic minorities and women. Bottom line, I think Seth MacFarlane is a way a sell-out. If he isn't in charge of either Family Guy, American Dad, OR the Cleveland Show, then what does he get paid the biggest salary in TV history to do? Be in charge of the universally-despised (even by the most loyal Family Guy fans) Cartoon Calvacade? Engage in the kind debauchery that Matt and Trey have admitted that they don't have time for?

Bottom line, when watching South Park, I can tell what Trey and Matt are feeling, and I usually enjoy listening to them. With Family Guy, I more often than can't get any kind of emotional connection, which means it fails IMHO to be art.

That's not really fair to use the ratings as the reason why. Of course Family Guy is going to have better ratings than South Park given that Family Guy airs on Fox and South Park airs on Comedy Central.

South Park; I haven't seen all of Series 13 or the current series, but what I've seen was generally pretty good. I saw the Family Guy episode where Quagmire's dad got a sex change and it was just awful, the worst kind of fratboy tripe. On the other hand I did like the controversial Brian and Stewie episode. For what it's worth I probably enjoy American Dad more than either these days.

I feel that both shows are not nearly as funny or enjoyable as they once were, but if I had to pick a winner I supposed I would side with Family Guy because it's still doing well in the ratings across all of the networks the show runs on and the show still manages to get a giggle out of me every now and again. But still, I feel both shows have lacked quality for some time now and I'm not really huge into the comedy side of animation anymore anyhow aside from a few CN originals, so I guess my POV is somewhat bias.

I'd have to go with South Park. While it's offensive, it doesn't seem to be offensive just for the sake of it...although the first couple of seasons did come across like that. I also agree that Trey and Matt haven't sold out, and pretty much say what's on their minds. Also, Family Guy's not as fun anymore: most of the jokes seem forced and many of the characters became outright annoying (Brian and Peter, mainly). I actually think American Dad and Cleveland Show are funnier than Family Guy, anyway.

Even though im probably the biggest family guy fan ever, I'd say South Park.
Seriously, I think south parks kinda going downhill, but at least "I" know when they start making episodes again. about half of us know when family guy season 9 starts. Besides, south park has their own website where we can watch episodes without having to complete deals of some sort. Family guy on the other hand has many websites that show episodes, but two in particular show them without having to complete deals or any of that s***. If family guy had their own website with all episodes without having to complete internet deals, their popularity will still be up.

So yeah, south park is my answer

Oh, hard poop here.....I think I'll go with South park.
Though If the thread included American dad, then I'd choose that.

Futher more.. I heard about "cartoon wars" in this thread.

I think Family guy has something similar, only it's not Family guy.

If anyone have seen Drawn together movie: the movie, then you know what I'm talking about. You know, make-a-point-land.
