who'll play the joker in the next batman film

Nope, your thinking of Two Face killing Robin/Dick Grayson's parents (not sure if that is true to the comics but I suspect not.)

In the comics its Joe Chill, a common mugger, that kills Bruces parents, not Joker. Although I can see why Burton changed it for that story, but personally, I actually think it's more powerful for the mythology to have them killed by a 'no one' though.

As for Joker, I liked Nicholson as Joker I found him a bit too controlled. I always wanted to see a more manic version (like the one Hamill voices in the Batman cartoon and in the comics) I love Hamill's Joker, but I can't see him pulling it off in live action... Crispin Glover is a good fit in my book. Lachy Hulme has also been mentioned, but I don't know his work that well to form an opinion. Joker in the comics was always quite a wirery build

Adrian Brody I always thought would be a good choice, and i've seen his name mentioned a few times. Some other suggestions i've seen are:

Johnny Depp
Jason Lee
Tim Roth
Edward Norton

Or some real curve ball suggestions

Tom Cruise (think of him as Lestat the Vampire)
Christopher Eccleston (if, BIG if, he can do a good American accent)

Yep, Guy Pierce was linked Wayne/Batman before Bale cause of Memento. I do think he'd do a good job as Dent though if they offered it to him. :)

I really enjoyed Batman Begins and although I saw the other 4 Batman films when they were first release dit has promted me to go out today and buy them all. I have today watched Batman and Batman Returns.

Batman Begins works well for aprequal to all of the other 4, the only thing not tying up is the whole 'who killed Bruce Waynes parents' as both films have different ideas as previoulst discusse din this thread.

So the enxt film is in the planning and will feature the Joker, wher ein the sequence of films will this film sit? should we discount all the original 4 films adn look at this as a new set of movies, making Begins the first of the series rather than a prequal to the others? am i making sense or babbling! lol

Personally i would now like to see a movie which follows on from Batman and Robin, with this new creative eam on the case they could pull it off and the films would continue raher than disconting those already made, they could still bring the Joker back, despite us believing him dead at the end of Batman, anyhing is possible in Gotham!......maybe they could crossoe rand bring in Halle Berry as Ctwoman now that we have seen he rin her own movie of this.

Jack Black could work as well as the Joker. Christain Bale was saying recently that he would like to see The Joker in the sequel:

"I want to see the Joker, because I think it will be a very different kind of Joker than people have seen before," he said. "I think even the card that you see at the end of the movie shows that it is a darker, more sinister-looking Joker than anything I have seen depicted before. I think it would be a good adversary."

So it looks like the new Joker will defiantly be more loyal to the comics!

Okay... as Digi_Master says, this is a restart of the franchise, to bleach out the travesty that was the camp fooling about of 'Batman & Robin' that killed that version of the movie franchise (killed by Joel 'lets put nipples on the Batsuit' Schumacher) ;)

In the same way the cartoon series's and the 60s TV series are totally different entities to the Burton & Schumacher films, so is Batman Begins.

Batman Begins is based around the ideals set out in the 'Batman: Year One' graphic novel by Frank Miller (who also wrote 'Sin City' by the way). 'Year One' was written as a reboot to the Batman comic books, to create a much darker, more interesting, and character driven story than Batman had been previously.

With that, Batman Begins and any subsequent Nolan movies i think will follow the same mythology as the current comic books do. That includes the Batman timeline where Joe Chill killed Bruces parents, Joker get locked up in Arkham Asylum, and Catwoman is Selina Kyle the prostitute, not Patience Phillips, a 'shy, sensitive artist'!

Yeah you are right daveydje as I think that is Christopher Nolan plan for these new Batman films. However from what I have read about his plans for the sequels he is not planning to bring Catwoman in yet which does disappoint me. I would love to see a proper version of Catwoman rather than the pathetic Halle Berry version!

The characters we'll see I think :
Joker, maybe Harley Quinn
Two-Face/Harvey Dent
However, don't expect any campness, even from the Joker. Its going to be dark, evil and sinister.

Paul Bettany has emerged as a surprise contender for the role of The Joker in the Batman Begins sequel. His competition are Lachy Hulme and Crispin Glover. Apparently Mark Hammil is not up for the part as the actor is too old for the part. Also rumoured for the part of Harvey Dent/ Two Face is Liev Schreiber (Scream).

I think the best possible choice would be Tim Roth. He's got exactly the right look, voice and build for the part. It would be a disaster to cast anyone like Christian Slater or Paul Bettany. And who the f*ck is Lachy Hulme??

Realistically, I think Tim Roth would be the man. But in an ideal world, Tim Curry definitely. It's a shame he's probably too old now.

Yes, now you come to mention it, I could see slim young Tim Curry in the role. He's a bit too old for it now I think. Tim Roth I do think would be good... I still think Paul Bettany would do a good job too though.

AICN is reporting a drunken Christian Bale (at the post premiere bash) spilled the titbit that Nolan is pursing Sean Pean for the role of Joker!... You know... I could actually see that working. Still only a rumour though. :)

Whoever they choose as the joker, they will not be better than jack nicholson. Though it would be cool if christian slater or Johnny depp did the role. Johnny depp is just so cool in Sleepy Hollow, and pirates of the Carribean, well enough said, that was his best performance ever for me as Jack Sparrow.

I just saw that too. The thing is, the Joker's always depicted as being theis very thin person (except when Jack played him of course) Penn's a fairly muscular guy, couldn't believe the size of his arms when he guested on two and a half men the other night.

for other characters...

Jack Black : Oswald Cobblepot
The Rock/Dwayne Johnson : Bane

and dont shoot me down on this, but facially, and if he could (a big "IF") act well enough, then Vinny Jones as the Joker. (ok shoot me down now, ive just realised how stupid that is)!!!!!

*oh i can never visit here again*
