Been re watching them all as I get them free on DVD from the Daily Mail and I've gotten addicted to them all over again - absolute classics even the poorer ones like Emmanuelle as better than most stuff today.

Anyway I would say Kenneth Williams was the star of the films narrowly beating Sid James.

Im torn as to who I feel was the bigger female star between Joan Sims and Hattie Jacques....

True though a fave of mine is Behind which was the era after James and Hawtrey both left permanently.

WinRABor Davies was a decent Sidney James replacement in the later era imo

I felt as long as Kenneth Williams and Joan Sims were in it it was watchable.

If I had to name just one star it would be Sid James .
Kenny Williams was second .

But as there was no single star who appeared in every film it's a hard one (ooer matron).

As a kid Charles Hawtrey was my favourite and I still like Cabby the best

She pretty much always played the same annoying busty blonde who Sid wanted to ravish though. At least Joan and Hattie played different kinRAB of characters.

I just dont rate Barbara WinRABor's acting at all

the 4 i miss when watching a Carry On if they do not appear the particular movie are

1.Kenny Williams
2.Sid James
3 Charles Hawtrey
4.Hattie Jacques

so them 4 along Kenneth Connor and Joan Sims are all the true Carry On stars the rest of the regulars are good to but you notice the names i mentioned more.

She actually appeared in 8 carry on films.
Spying
Doctor
Again Doctor
Camping
Henry
Abroad
Matron
Dick

She says herself that some people think she was in nearly all of them but its only 8 out of 29.

As well as the usual suspects, I'd like to put forward Jim Dale for consideration. He made a great regular joe of a hero, grounding the wackiness going on around him in some kind of reality. They missed him in later ones, IMHO. Compare him to that twerp who played the boss's son in '...Convenience'.

I'd put Sid James and Kenneth Williams on equal billing at the top.

Since no one's named him so far I must give an honourable mention to Bernard Bresslaw, whose performances I always enjoyed. Not the main star of course, but always a great cast member and is probably remembered by most people for his Carry On appearances alone. I guess he must have featured in about half of the series.

Whilst he may not be most people's first choice, as he is two of my top three Carry on Films (Screaming and Cleo) I'm gonna have to go for Jim Dale (if only he had the Roy Castle role in Up the Khyber he's have the holy trinity).

I would also put forward Jack, Spying, Doctor and Cowboy to strengthen his case.

I'd say Joan Sims for the ladies.
