Who would watch a cartoon based on Jeff Smith's Bone.

I just got done reading the collection and was thinking "man this would make an awesome animated series." Action, comedy, drama, epic storytelling and the best thing is that the designs wouldn't need to be modified for animation. The line work is so simple and streamlined that it could be taken as is.

So anyone else up for it?

I hate to break this to you, but I wouldn't watch it if it was produced for primetime. Further, I especially wouldn't watch it if took a Spawn-type approach (whereby it had to air on HBO, or whatever late at night).

There were plans for an animated movie version of Bone a few years back that was to be produced by Nickelodeon movies, but the deal fell through because Nick wanted the Bone cousins to be voiced by kid actors and for the movie to have contemporary music and pop songs in the soundtrack. Jeff Smith (the creator of Bone) was against both ideas, and so the project was dissolved.

But to answer the question, sure, I'd watch an animated Bone, if it was done well. Here's my wish list for voice actors:

Fone Bone- Jim Henshaw

Phoney Bone- Gilbert Gottfried

Smiley Bone- Bill Farmer

After watching Happy Feet, I would have put Elijah Wood as Fone Bone. This would make a decent series, but a full length movie would be cut down way too much.

It sounds like a no-brainer to me and it's a question of when, not if. Someone'll do it eventually....

There is an interview somewhere where Smith tells who he'd like to voice each character. I don't remember where it is, but I know he mentioned Danny DeVito as Phoney. So...Gilbert Gottfried, I don't think so.

If anyone downloaded the Bone games that came out, he probably had influence in how the voices sounded there.

OK, you may not agree with his pics, but you don't have to bad-mouth them. We're just dream-casting here, so anything goes. All opinions are valid and all.

I kind of hope they wouldn't use the game voices. The Bone cousins sounded too 'normal' in those. Jeff Smith claimed that he based the Bones off of classic cartoon characters, yet in those games they just sounded like regular guys. I think more 'cartoony' voices would suit Fone Bone, Phoney and Smiley more, but that's just me.

Off-topic: I like your avatar, Martinaivader. I'm a 30 Rock fan myself. :)

I've read the entire Bone series (I have the "complete" graphic novel),I loved it(the "rat creatures" especially),and I would like to see an animated adaption made (movie or series, but considering the length of the story,a series would be better)...

Sadly I never got a chance to read any of the Bone comics, all I remember is reading it in Disney Adventures magazine back in the classic days where they ran the comic each week. I remember the main bone character and phoney had made it to town and reunited with the other bone guy and never found out what happened next.

I always thought a movie trilogy would make more sense than an animated series, personally.

But I love Bone, and I'd love to see it put to life in any way possible.

I'd love it on Toonami as a opener, although the beginning is a bit too humorous too get onto Toonami (at first). Of course, once we'd get to Roque Ja straight until the end it'd be perfect.

Go ahead and get the complete collection, it's a really good read. I just finished it last week and I was really happy with it.

I also read on Wiki about Smith's conflict with Nick on how Bone should be adapted. Good for him, sticking to his principles. He was totally justified in what he believed.
