Lincoln saved the democracy.
Roosevelt made us a world power.

Honorable mention to Franklin, Jackson, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Reagan and maybe Washington.

Note - LBJ passed JFK's civil rights laws. He only supported those things because he knew it would win him votes.
 
Thomas Jefferson-The driving force behind the Independence movement and chief intellectual mind behind it.
George Washington-For wining the war and keeping the Army and the new nation together.
Abe Lincoln-Pretty obvious.
Lindon Banes Johnson-Civil rights act, and other Civil Rights laws. Only a White Texan with Johnson's background could have pulled that off at that time.
