who was the most significant person in history and WHY

(don't judge by inventions-like gutenberg b/c of his printing press---because i'm doing a separate list for inventions)

could you explain why you think the way you do.
thanks guys.

karl marx- His writings are wholly responsible for the whole development of the anti-capitalist way of thinking, The seeing of things previously hidden, the expanding of minds and greater questioning of things, the the russian revolution happened because of marxism and Hitler in his youth read karl marx's writings.

Probably Mamertines. He was the one who effectively started the punic wars, which ensured that the Romans were the superpower instead of Carthaginians.

The American citizen. Through and by his and her efforts the modern wold was created and spread through the world. All those inventions, ideas and dreams. For better or worse. The impact of the idea that the individual was important, that the common man had rights that he could assert in all situations and that the citizen had the right and duty to select who should lead them were revolutionary and did change the world. The founding fathers of the USA put into words what was felt by the people but it was only by their acceptance of these words, their defence of and their dying to see these words put into action that they created a new thing, a democratic republic whose ideas have resonated world wide.
Ho Chi Mihn based the constitution on the North Vietnam on the constitution of the USA. Go to the Middle East and you will hear "Death to America" but then you will hear about family members who made it to America and how the speaker is going to America.

1. Alexandre the Great
His legacy and conquests lived on long after him and ushered in centuries of Greek settlement and cultural influence over distant areas.
2. Aristotle
Aristotle not only studied almost every subject possible at the time, but made significant contributions to most of them. It has been suggested that Aristotle was probably the last person to know everything there was to be known in his own time.
3.Leonardo da Vinci
Leonardo was and is renowned primarily as a painter but as a scientist, he greatly advanced the state of knowledge in the fields of anatomy, civil engineering, optics, and hydrodynamics.
4. Karl Marx
He was a German philosopher, historian, political theorist, sociologist, communist and revolutionary credited as the founder of communism..
5. Louis Pasteur.
His experiments supported the germ theory of disease. He invented a method to stop milk and wine from causing sickness - this process came to be called pasteurization. He is regarded as one of the three main founders of micorobiology.

Edit: I agree with KaliMan about Jesus and Mohamed. Their impact has been enormous.

Well - I'd have to say someone from the Bible - Abraham, Jesus, or Mohamed.

I am not a Jew, a Christian, or a Muslim, but I don't think you can deny the impact on humanity that the Abrahamic religions have had. I don't believe it has always been a good impact (and in fact I think it has mostly been a bad impact, but that's just my belief).

Jesus.

Whether you believe in him or not.

Everyone knows who he is.

With him came the Bible, the most sold, most published, most widespread, most read book in the history of man.

Christianity is now one of the largest religions, many religions have branched off from this, mormons, catholics, islam, jehovah witnesses and so on. It has affected decisions and morals of many people, famous, leaders, the average joe. It has affected huge governments to the smallest family.

And all came from one man, Jesus.
