Who told the truth in the Garden of Eden, God or the serpent? (read the whole...

...question please)? God said that if Adam and Eve were to eat the fruit of Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil that they would surely die the same day that they ate of it. The serpent came along and told Eve that they would not die if they ate the fruit but that they would be like gods knowing good and evil. Eve ate the fruit and did not die like God said would happen. They lived for hundreds of more years. Who told the truth? Remember, God said they would die the SAME day that they ate the fruit. Don't tell me God was talking about a spiritual death either!
Genesis 2:17

17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die
Interpret it the way you want Ry. God said they would die, not that their soul would die.
Mr. Spicoli, read the verse I posted please, you'll see that you're wrong.

what God meant was they will die spiritually. their bodies were created to live forever, but because of eve and then adam, disobeying God, they screwed up the world cause of sin. then they wore off the "forever stuff" in their bodies and only lived 900yrs or so. God now has given man 72yrs to live [some die sooner or later].

Can you put the verse so I can see it? I don't have good knowledge of the Bible, but if it does indeed say what you say, then obviously God was telling porkies.
Edit: So I read the other answers, and I'm just wondering, if it means that they had to die (eventually) because they ate the fruit, instead of living forever in heaven, then why were they created in the first place if it was just to live in heaven forever?

God counts time different than we do....The bible says God created the universe in 6 days...this is true...because 1000 with us is a day with Jehovah......so before the day was out both Adam and Eve were dead...they did not live to 1000 years old.....they had to stay alive long enough to populate the earth.

(Genesis 2:1-25) Thus the heavens and the earth and all their army came to their completion. 2Â*And by the seventh day God came to the completion of his work that he had made, and he proceeded to rest on the seventh day from all his work that he had made. 3Â*And God proceeded to bless the seventh day and make it sacred, because on it he has been resting from all his work that God has created for the purpose of making.

And Jehovah God also laid this command upon the man: “From every tree of the garden you may eat to satisfaction. 17Â*But as for the tree of the knowledge of good and bad you must not eat from it, for in the day you eat from it you will positively die.”

That a day can be longer than 24 hours is indicated by Genesis 2:4, which speaks of all the creative periods as one “day.” Also indicative of this is Peter’s inspired observation that “one day is with Jehovah as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day.” (2Pe 3:8) Ascribing not just 24 hours but a longer period of time, thousands of years, to each of the creative days better harmonizes with the evidence found in the earth itself.

You believe a story with a talking snake. Really, you don't think that sounds stupid. A fricken TALKING SNAKE.
What is this a Disney movie?

You need to take into account the fact that book you're reading is not written in its the original language, nor is it even the original story. The Bible changed as it was handed down through the generations; I'm sure you would find hundreds if not thousands of such errors. Sometimes the translations were imperfect.

But we also need to remember that the Garden of Eden is a metaphor, the entire Bible is a book of metaphorical stories designed to teach how to live a fulfilled life in compassion.

So I believe.

Not that I'm defending the Bible, but it doesn't say they would die the same day, only that they would die. Some Bible literalists have suggested that death did not exist before the fall, but that it came into existence after the fruit of the tree of knowledge was eaten. If you are going to attack their beliefs, at least understand what they are first.

EDIT: I read the verse you supplied. I have also read other translations of the Bible which do not specify when Adam and Eve would die. If you are going to argue translation, then this debate will become long and tedious indeed.

Adam and Eve were origanally going to live forever on earth in the Garden of Eden. Never having children, never againg. Because they ate the fruit, they had to die. God did not say "the same day" anywhere in that part of history. So because they ate the fruit, they were banished from the Garden of Eden and became mortal.

The real truth about the Garden of Eden is told by Jesus in Revelation 12:12-14.

Jesus told you about the words that Moses and the prophets spoke, Jesus said that the words they spoke where not from heaven and that all those who came before Him (Jesus) meaning Moses and the prophets were thieves and robbers.

Jesus told you who Moses and the prophets worshiped in the wilderness and in the mountain of sin (Sinai) they worshiped the serpent and Moses even made an image of his God, the serpent.

Lucifer is the father of lies, and he is the great red dragon, the rider of the red horse, the black horse and the pale horse, he is the devil, and goes by many names including "I am that I am".

"a thousand years is like a day to God", I don't remember the verse.

Also, the serpent clearly said that they wouldn't die, period. That was clearly untrue.

God told the truth ! The inner-self "died" when they realized that they were naked and then they became ashamed!!

The devil may have been talking about physical death!
