there was never a real sequel after the second batman flick because the studio wanted a change in the dark tone of the films...

Tim Burton did preliminary work on a third installment but Warner Bros. threw out Burton's plans after they realized the tone of the film was to be similar to Batman Returns, which they deemed too controversial and difficult to market (due to critics and parental groups complaining that the film was too dark and violent for children), the studio wanted the next film to be more family-friendly. Michael Keaton was prepared to return for a third installment, even going so far as to show up for costume fitting. However, after Tim Burton was dropped by Warner Bros. (slated to co-producer in name only), Keaton left the series in July 1994, after being dissatisfied with the screenplay the new director, Joel Schumacher, approved, which Keaton considered to be lighter in tone in comparison to the past two Batman movies. Warner Bros. then offered him $35,000,000 (one of the highest salaries offered to an actor at the time), but Keaton steadfastly refused. Keaton was subsequently succeeded by Val Kilmer in Batman Forever. In February 1996, Kilmer decided not to return for a sequel, feeling that Batman was being marginalized in favor of the villains. George Clooney was then cast as the new Batman in Batman & Robin.
The studios won't make that mistake again...they will definitely keep the tone and look Chris Nolan reestablished..no matter who directs or writes from this point on..
007 is a code name..james bond is his REAL name. If what your saying was the case then they could KILL OFF james bond and restart the films by showing a new spy being trained to be "james bond".. as for the second part..if hackman had died during the first superman series do you think they would have retired the character then and there or just recasted the part?
if something happens and routh cant do it do you think the studio will stop making superman films or wait 20 years to do it or do you think they will recast the role relatively quickly?
(give you a hint...dont bet on the first one..)
