Who many hockey teams compete in the hockey world cup?

8 competed in the 2004 World Cup. Usually the United States, Canada, Slovakia, Russia, Sweden, Finland, the Czech Republic and Germany compete. However, Switzerland may replace Germany at the next World Cup.
