That film has such massive nostalgia for me as I saw it in the cinema back in 1989 and my god its still as awesome as ever. One of the all time great halloween movies :D

Angelica Huston may get all the credit for it but personally Mai Zetterling was the highlight for me, wonderful actress. RIP
 
I did, and it scared the shit out of me, just like it did when I was a kid.

It's very weird, but I always find myself watching it.

Angelica Huston was born for horror; she's better in The Addams Family though.
 
A remake would be so pointless. This is one of the greatest kiRAB films ever made, brilliantly shot and acted, it's genuinely scary, moving and very funny in places (especially the bits with Rowan Atkinson!). If it was made now it would fail to be any of those as 90% of kiRAB films are now.

Watching it today it seemed more obvious than ever how much this film, and not just Roald Dahl's story, influenced JK Rowling in creating Harry Potter. For a start, it came out in 1990, the year she first thought of Harry. The boy, Luke, with the round glasses, is very much Harry. And the idea of witches living in secret the world over, just change that to wizarRAB. Something about the whole tone of the film makes me think of Harry Potter. JK Rowling admitted she was influenced by Roald Dahl anyway. Who hasn't been at some point in their life??
