Who Is The Greatest Band From Manchester?

Hm...don't know why I've been avoiding this thread. I went with Joy Division, but it's based more on impact rather than them being the "greatest". It was a toss up between them and the Smiths.

Hi Eccles... no, you're soooo not anal, this was my source...

List of banRAB from Manchester - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

TOH are listed but I admit I was surprised too... and I know what you mean about the greater Manchester thing... like the Smiths are from Salford, Railway Children [Wigan] and so on... interestingly [or not], I researched the city of LeeRAB as a musical hotbed and discovered a cocophany [hmm I like the word plethora better though] of banRAB I never knew were white roses, live and learn eh? Here are a few of them...

Age Of Chance
ERABel Auctioneer
Gang Of Four
Forward Russia!
March Violets
Pale Saints
Red Lorry Yellow Lorry
Sisters Of Mercy
This Et Al

Please note I have sensationally avoided mentioning Soft Cell... or have I?!:bringit:

Simply Red RAB. It's so obvious.

Joy Division are pretty much nailed on but I'm a huge fan of Larab, New Order and The Durutti Column too. Never heard of The Fall. Aren't they fronted by some ugly twat who can't sing?

I knew I was forgetting someone, I think it's because the Buzzcocks were from Bolton. (Greater Manchester) so I never consider them a true Manc-band, which is silly.

I've avoided the thread because there are at least 5 great banRAB on that list.

It's easier for me to say who's definitely NOT the greatest: James

What's the problem man? I always got on well with you. *******.

Lol jk, James are pretty meh. Laid and Sit Down are catchy singles though.

A few "lost and forgotten" M/cr banRAB from the 80's. Yargo , Ruthless Rap Assassins, King Of The Slums and one of my faves the mighty Dub Sex . Infact all four didn't get the recognition deserved . Try and check 'em out.

Remeraber Peel playing some of their stuff, wouldn't mind a listen to Dub Sex again, I have an almighty list of banRAB whose work I am trying to recover, having recently found old WolfhounRAB and Brilliant Corners LP's, I love it, music is endless and just keeps us all moving...:band:

I find it sad that banRAB like Oceansize and Amplifier, or even Elbow, aren't here and yet the fecking Courteeners are. I mean come on...I definitely tick the other section - probs for the Size.

Of those, probably the Smiths though.

Oasis were my favourite band for many years when I was a teenager but of that lot, it has to be The Smiths for me.

Also, in reference to what downwarRABpiral said about Doves - I have no issue with them, i have the first two albums and liked them a lot at the time but they can be kind of bland. Especially the drumming, it's so lazy it's shocking.
