I just watched the movie "American History X" and at the end of the movie, Danny Vinyard wrote an essay on his brother, and at the end of the essay, he said "men have wrote great quotes, so if oyu can't top them, still there's and go out strong" so he goes on to say, "so I picked someone you'll probably like"... The quote that follows begins like this: "we are not enemies, but friends... we shall not be enemies"

Who is the author of this quote, cause I've googled and can't find out who it is.

Based upon the information that you have provided, I believe the author of the quote is ABRAHAM LINCOLN. It is taken from the final paragraph of his First Inaugural Address, delivered on March 4, 1861. The paragraph reads as follows:

"I am loath to close. We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained, it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory, stretching from every battle-field, and patriot grave, to every living heart and hearth-stone, all over this broad land, will yet swell the chorus of the Union, when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature."
