Who is someone in history who, although has done something bad, has admitted their mistake and has been basically "forgiven" by the public? It is for an essay on the idea that truth and honesty are the most important virtues in life...
 
may be write about a famous guy who cheated on his wife and he admitted his mistake and public forgive him cuz he tell them hes regret about it and will faintful to his wife? and not cheat any more?

Galileo Galilei. He said the sun was the centre of the universe when the church said the earth was.

He then later admitted he was wrong, although he secretly still believed the sun was the centre

He did this because he didn't want to threaten the power of the church and be social alienated/imprisoned.
