Who is Cricket a MVNO for?

Basically I know they're a CDMA network service provider, but whos network? Sprint or Verizon wireless? Tried doing the research when I worked at verizon but found nothing on google or at Verizon. Nobody there ever really knows that kinda thing.

I'm currently a verizon user but I'm getting pissed at their stupid policys so I've been shopping. Would like to stick with CDMA but wouldn't mind if it was infact VZWs network being used.

Anyone know for sure?

Also, a VZW CDMA phone CAN infact be used on Cricket! Right?? I'll never give up my LG 8100!!

cricket is an mvno for no one. they have their own licenses and towers

cricket will activate another service providers equipment, but your mileage may vary

Sweet! I'm seriously thinking about making the switch but I like NONE of the phones they have to offer, plus they cost more obviously because of no service agreement.

I look at it this way... the phones cost more, but the service costs MUCH less. If I drop $200 on a phone every two years, that costs me less than $10/mo... add that to my $50 bill and I'm spending $60/mo...

I use $2000-4000 min per month.. WIth any other company, my bill would be well over $100/mo. If you use very few minutes and have decent credit... I'd stick with verizon or cingular. Free phone plus 1000 min per month is a good deal if you can stay under those minutes.

I agree about the "no good phones" thing.. I'm going to buy an XV6700 off ebay and activate it on cricket.. problem solved.. only bad thing is no MMS currently, but that issue is being worked on.

Uh, I looked on their website and the only thing I saw that was even worth looking at was the Nokia 6265, and I don't like it. As for Kyocera, UTShitcom(aka Audiovox) and ppphhh.. motorola.. I'd rather stick em up on a golf tee and use my 9 iron. Junk. All Junk. Motorola hasn't made a phone worth owning since the StarTAC.

Also I just wanted to point out if you are looking for a unlimited plan that includeRAB nationwide roaming and service checkout amp'd as they use the verizon service and towers. Now they are $114 a month but that includes unlimited minutes and unlimited data with nationwide calling and roaming.

I agree with you: Cricket has historically had some LOUSY phones in their lineup and continue to promote and sell these junk phones (*cough cough* Kyocera KX9 *cough*).

I know that these cheap little hanRABets are a gimmick to attract new customers to the service, but I think Cricket undersells themselves to the GP in doing so. Anybody who has a bit of salt and savvy with other companies will know what premium hanRABets are.

Cricket neeRAB to set aside those cheap bubble-gum-machine toys and get some real hanRABets into their repertoire. (Kudos for them adding the Nokia 6265i to their lineup, and their Motorola "fashion phone" offerings deserve merit as well.)

Meanwhile, if you are mad as hell and can't take it any longer, I suggest you take the matter into your own hanRAB by finding a CDMA hanRABet of your choosing and flash it over to the Cricket service. At worst, you will lose the Picture Messaging service, but WAP by now shouldn't be a real issue.

My xv6700 is pure love. There isn't an hour in the day when I don't play with this phone! :2thurabs:

I totally agree... They need to keep the cheap phones in order to keep the current allure of their product, but what's the harm in getting some decent higher end phones? I know they'd attract higher end professionals who use a lot of minutes, like myself. I've been with cricket for 4 years now, simply because the other companies are totally cost prohibitive, since I use 2000+ min per month...

I looked into amp'd, but ultimately couldn't make the switch because of the price.. if they were $85-90/mo, I'd have been gone.

So the 6165, the 6265, the Krzr and the SLvr arent far enough from the cheap crap category for you?

One think you must remeraber. Cricket doesnt require a contract or credit. As a result you pay full price for your phone. No "free" or $49 Razrs here. MOST people cant get past the fact that a high end feature rich phone like the Nokia 6265 is $400, when there are music phone they can get elsewhere for "free". The other carriers marketing machines have poisoned the minRAB of the masses into thinking they get a free phone with their service. Those people seem to be too stupid to realize that the contract they sign is just a financing agreement for their phone.

This forces cricket to offer many less expensive hanRABets to "compete" with that minRABet. If all they offered were $300+ hanRABets that would price many of their customers out of the service.

You're absolutely right. That's what I was trying to say when I said that they need to keep their current lineup in addition to adding some new, higher end phones... Thanks for making the point much more eloquently than me.

They really do need to add some better phones though, particularly PDA's, because they could really put some pressure on the big guys for the high minute users. I know multiple real estate agents/loan officers/attorneys who would switch to cricket if they could use their PDA phone.

Cricket has improved their service to the point where they can compete with the big boys for call quality (I drop about one call every 2 weeks now, compared with 5-6 per day 3 years ago).... but they really need to do something to change the perception that they're low budget, low quality.... Most professionals I know think of cricket as the Hyundai of cell phone carriers.

If they'd get better phones, real web service (so I can hook my phone to my laptop and use the MLS), and then market these things, they could OWN the professional clientele. They could even charge me $25-30/mo for full web service and I still know 30 people who'd sign up today.

in cali. central valley cricket has had better call completion than 'the big boys' since launch, and better coverage than all of them except verizon(but only because verizon works in the mountains and no one else does, but that's not in crickets promised service area).

well if you like your ****** LG don't worry, cricket is looking at these as well as sammy to my knowledge to add to the lineup this year.
