Chester Nimitz was Commander-in-Chief of the Pacific Naval fleet during World War II. He was one of the men who signed the Japanese surrender document aboard the Missouri Battleship in 1945.

Nimitz was born and raised in Fredericksburg, Texas, and the National Pacific War Museum was established there in his honor. I just went there a month ago and it was amazing.
