Clare misinterpreted what her mother was saying big time. Her mother was saying that she wished she had put more effort into her and Clare's father's relationship when she had the chance to -- and the crazy girl (Clare) went to Eli and suggested staying the night.
I know Clare's going through a lot, and I just love how Eli's encouraging her to stay true to her faith in Christ and who she really is (even though she's saying she doesn't know who that is). I like how the show is...showing
... that it isn't always easy to keep your faith strong. It's a struggle sometimes. It's easy to praise God when things are going your way, but the most honest worship comes when His beautiful name is slipping past your lips when everything is falling apart. I mean everything. That's something that Clare needs to find; to build between her and Jesus. And I hope that the show explores this further.
