Who is a good award winning author?

I'm looking for a book geared toward adults but a good read for a teen not a necessarily easy read but one that wont bore me to death. It has to be by an award winning author, and fiction and the people at borders did not help me at all. Preferably not mystery or suspense.
 
You could try Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin; it's a really original, interesting book. I think she's won a couple of awards, but I'm not sure which ones.
You might also like Alice Sebold, she's wrote a couple of really amazing books, The Lovely Bones being my favourite. She has won the American Booksellers Association Book of the Year Award for Adult Fiction and the Bram Stoker Award for First Novel.
