Who is a good author that also shows culture in their writing?

An author named Malorie Blackman (yes she is black but not a man)

She wrote 4 books on racism but in the fictional world Blacks are 1st class and whites are treated inferiorly. Bloody amazing series I highly reccomend it :)

First book - Noughts and Crosses
2nd - Knifes edge
3rd - Checkmate
4th - Double Cross

Harper Lee. :P

J.K Rowling also shows (very) little culture, but she does well at explaining the cultures of werewolves, wizards, and the every-day "muggle." If it's a school project, I suggest not doing J.K Rowling. :P
I don't know much of anything else. :P

Jim Northrop and Basil Johnston just to name a couple. They are Native American authors. Then there's the guy that wrote The Absolute True Diary of a Part Time Indian.

:D

Frank McCourt, "Angela's Ashes."
Surely on a day like today, that would hae been ye farst choice, nae wouldn't it?

But if ye want another choice, you could do no better than "One Hundred Years of Solitude" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
