who has seen the movie "OldBoy"?

I saw Oldboy when it was released in the cinema and it is a amazing film that I would recommend to anybody to watch it!
I bought it on DVD as soon as it came out and its well worth buying especially as you should be able to pick it up cheap. There are rumours about an American remake of Oldboy!

It's an incredible, violent, horrific, tearjerking, intriguing work of art tbh, and that's only part of the film student in me talking. It's got that rare entertaining and interesting thing going on.

Remake will suck, they can't get stuff like the grudge anywhere near right (i'm aware OldBoyis Korean, but it's a quintessentialy asian film), so they aint gonna be able to do this.

This is one of those films I've read about and am intrigued by, but have never got around to seeing. Prompted by the comments above I think I will give it a whirl this week.

Being a cephalopod fan, Im not looking forward to:

the octopus eating scene
.

Hey, maybe we should set up a RAB Film Club like the book one they have over in Chatter!

That's not really much of a spoiler!

It's okay. Great setup, brilliant hook...but the denouement and resolution are a bit daft. One kick-ass fight scene with a hammer though.

Yeah I wouldnt have bothered with spoiler tags at all for that. When I went to watch Oldboy I knew that happens in the film already and it didnt spoil it for me!

I don't see the big deal about the Octo eating scene, didn't disturb me at all. As for Oldboy, one of my favourites, absolutely love it.

The remake is happening unfortunately, well last time I heard anyway. Lets hope it has fallen through.

The hammer fight scene is just stunning! If you like Oldboy, I recommend A Bittersweet Life, no where near as good but it's interesting.

This is a great idea - you should start a thread! Perhaps make it so it's a film on Standard Analogue TV so everyone can take part! Feel free to 'Instant Message' me if you'd like some help with this :)

Anyway, back OT...

I'll repost my review here from my website; it contains pretty much all I have to say about it else:

Oldboy
Oh Dae-Su (Min-sik Choi), a drunken business man on his way home to celebrate his daughter's birthday, gets kidnapped and imprisoned for 15 years by an unknown captor. Then, one day, he is inexplicably released. Dae-Su then takes it upon himself to find out the reasons for his incarceration, with twisted results.

Director Chan-wook Park puts on an interesting spectacle that mixes drama and action, whilst exploring multitudes of emotional subjects such as violence and inner-destruction. Min-sik Choi plays a convincing tortured soul, apparently shedding over 20 pounRAB of weight preparing for the role. The film's modern style feels fresh and exciting, whilst not overly distracting or pretentious.

However, despite several intense set-pieces, including an impressive single shot 'one-man-army' fight in a hallway, the film becomes unbalanced and flat at times: the glossy cinematography and jagged editing become overpowering, whilst the plot becomes more shallow and predictable as the film progresses. Perhaps with a little more self-restraint the film could have made a greater impact, but unfortunately the climax is too slow in arriving and mystifyingly superficial when it gets there. A better than average film that neeRAB ten years to mature and a 'Director's cut' to put into the realms of 'breathtaking'.

'3 out of 5'...

Yeah, I can understand that.

I have to say that I prefer 'Auditon' to 'OldBoy' myself: it's just that one scene with the eyes *turns green at the thought of it*
