As a young kid I enjoyed no other sport more than I did baseball, it was exciting to play and watch, I had thousands of baseball cards and followed any and all news on baseball and the scores. For the past several years we have seen overhyped, ridiculously paid but underperforming players, the whole steroid scandal while top ball players can lie to Congress with a straight face saying they have never done the stuff and they have never seen any of their colleagues use them either. All the best and most impressive current players seem to only be the ones coming in from overseas leagues, ticket sales are down and so are ratings. This is why I feel baseball has lost its relevance in the American psyche and has lost its context and purpose in modern day American society. If anything it appears football (the pigskin kind, not soccer) is now the true national pastime. Baseball has worn out its supposed allure as our national sport and its time something should be said about it.
