Who else agrees that learning foreign languages in high school is a waste of time

and money? I'm taking Spanish right now, I used to take Latin. Spanish so far has been completely pointless. HS Spanish, if anything, has made me lose an appreciation for Mexican culture. But on another note, who has ever learned a foreign language out of 4 years of HS language. Nobody, that's who.

Maybe it's baby steps.
Like you learn the basis for Spanish (or any other foreign language) and when you get out of high school, you start learning some more.
And maybe it's not for being fluent, it's only for being able to small talk,
or order Coffee in Madrid or something.

I would argue that many students around the world are bilingual. It really depends on where you want to go in a career. If you'd like to travel the world, it'd be nice to understand some phrases. It's true that learning Spanish/foreign language can be frustrating, but it's not impossible.
