From all the buzz surrounding the Wii, and the fact that it lives up to the buzz, I cannot fathom how the Wii could lose. It has the force behind it that hasn't been seen since the early days of video games. This is something the entire family can get into. This is a system that anybody can pick up a controller and know how to play. And, most importantly, this is the system that anyone (with a job) can afford.
The proof is in the air. I had this conversation with a few people at my work. They are in their 30s and are no more than casual gamers (except one lady who plays WoW hardcore). The WoW player was raving about how awesome and intuitive the Wii is (her friend has one). A few others chimed in about how they can't stand the games that require you to memorize what all the buttons do on the overcomplicated controllers. One guy (for the sake of Sony fanboys) mentioned how beautiful CoD3 looked on his friend's PS3, but said he will still most likely buy a Wii (he would play it, and he has a 12 y/o son who wants one). To top it off, they all agreed that PS3 is just more of the same.
The Wii is meant for everyone. Only the hardcore gamers will complain about the graphics. To the average person, especially one who hasn't played a video game in years, graphics or horsepower means shit. No matter what kind of gamer you are, you cannot deny one thing: video games are about FUN. Top end graphics are great, yes, but that's not what keeps you in the game. A shiney piece of shit is still a piece of shit.
In a business world, it's all about profit. The lifeblood of a game console are the developers. The developers will flock to a system who has a large and growing userbase where they can earn the most amount of money. The Wii is well on its way, and developers left and right are opening up game studios specifically for the Wii. To top it off, out of all the next-gen systems, the Wii is the cheapest to develop for. Bottom line: a game company would be foolish NOT to develop titles for the Wii.
