Hate to say it but 'fresh, new' directors are few and far between these days It's all a bit of an old boy's network at the moment AFAIK.

Generally speaking, I'm quite impressed by those who've crossed over from music videos & adverts into feature films. For example, Michel Gondry's work on "Eternal Sunshine", Johnathan Glazer with "Sexy Beast", David LaChappelle's "Rize" and Mark Romanek's ultra-stylish "One Hour Photo". Oh, and Spike Jonze of course...

i found it overly long, tedious and slow, and lacking of any humour.
People critisized the Hulk film for being the same, it just wasnt fashionable to make a mature comic book film a few years ago. I dont see why Nolan should be let off the hook for making a slow paced dull film, just because its the fashion.
The bad guy was terrible too.

However much i liked shaun of the dead and hot fuzz i found Edgar Wright's directing a bit too much all over the place.
