Dont list me all time favs like Spielberg or Marty...
People who have had only a 10 year career at most, and maybe 5 or so main films at most.
One of my favourites right now is Sofia Coppola, ive really LOVED all 3 of her films.
Also M Night Shyamalan. I really like Sixth Sense, Signs, Unbreakable & The Village. Even his last film had some good elements, and his next 2 projects look really promising (One starring Mark Wahlberg, and the other based on the hit cartoon Avatar)
Also David Fincher is really good, and i include him in this list because his films have really big gaps between them. So his career is still fresh, even though Alien 3 was 15 years ago. Most of his films have been very good.
As far as promising directors with only 1 or 2 films...
I really loved Zach Braff's debut, Garden State is one of my all time favourites.
Also Craig Brewer's first major film Hustle & Flow really blew me away, and i look forward to Black Snake Moan (Sam L Jackson, Christina Ricci & Justin Timberlake).
