Who are the most underrated actors?

I think a lot of black actors are underrated..like the aforementioned Don Chedle and a person I think should be getting recognized, Harold Perrineau Jr.... and I think people are starting to see the talent Jamie Foxx's has.

As for the girls, Angela Basset is always awesome and the girl needs an Oscar...even just for her arms.

The thing with Holly, two long running series to her credit. The only movie I know she was in is A Reason To Believe, and i know this cuz she showed her boobies.

Jake I only know of two movies, Donnie Darko and The Day After Tomorrow.

Ryan Gosling- most just know him as the guy from the Notebook, but his other roles are amazing. There's a reason, Daniel Day Lewis named him as one of the best young actors today. (Big compliment IMO)

James McAvoy- Im biased, but he is amazing.

Desperado
Buscemi - "I layed it on thick"
Banderas - "How thick?"
Buscemi - "Well, pretty thick. I told them you were the biggest Mexican I'd ever seen"
Banderas gives the thumbs up - "Great"

ConAir
"What if I told you insane was working fifty hours a week in some office for fifty years at the end of which they tell you to piss off; ending up in some retirement village hoping to die before suffering the indignity of trying to make it to the toilet on time? Wouldn't you consider that to be insane?"

Armageddon
"You know we're sitting on four million pounds of fuel, one nuclear weapon and a thing that has 270,000 moving parts built by the lowest bidder. Makes you feel good, doesn't it?"

Steve definately deserves something! :D

What on earth are you talking about? under-rated means to me lack of recognition...as in award wins/nominations, critical acclaim etc ...nothing to do with how famous they are..

I'll add Johnny Depp to my list

In your arguement (that also fits into mine) Steve Zahn is highly under-rated...hardly anyone knows him nor has he had much official recognition

He was fantastic in Riding in cars with boys and many other films

I'd have to agree with James McAvoy right now....He should have been nominated for a Supporting Oscar last year for The Last King of Scotland.

He's so wonderful! I think he's getting better known with audiences, he's definitely a hit with movie people. As he should be.

Thora Birch just needs a strong role in a mainstream movie. She's done some amazing work, but in a lot of smaller/"art" movies. But...maybe she likes it that way, so my suggestion can be discarded. Hehe.

Thora is a lot like Johnny Depp used to be. Give her the interesting, quirky roles and she's happy. Well, Johnny still likes the same roles, but he can deal with the bigger studio movies as well.

Hm, they should do a movie together.

I disagree cause I couldn't go to any store, ( when the success of Titanic happened) without seeing his face everywhere.

Anyways, I say Joshua Jackson, Leonor Varela, Holly Marie Combs are very underrated. They do great work, however, I would prefer it if they didn't go into the whole Hollywood thing.

I did see the movie. It has one of my favorite film scores. But I'd completely forgotten, or else never realized, that he was in it.

Someone else mentioned Steve Buscemi. He always manages to make his creepy-nebbish roles memorable. His is the character I remember best from "Con Air", even though he didn't have a lot of lines. He's good in "Ghost World", which is well worth a rental besides. And he's funny as a member of Brendan Fraser's loser rockband in "Airheads".

I agree with you. Jake Gyllenhaal was just a 'pretty face' before BBM. Then people realize he can act.

Julia Stiles is good too. I can't wait to see her in Omen 666.

Toni Collette and Don Cheadle are great and sometimes people don't notice their amazing work.

Thora Birch, Ellen Page, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Ryan Gosling, Kelli Garner and Micheal Cera. I'm also going to say J.K. Simmons :)

Jennifer Garner: The emotions this woman can portray are just mindblowing. Everytime I see her in a movie, I really do feel like I can connect with her, and feel her emotions that she's going through. She really is a fantastic actress in my opinion.

Kurt Russell. I just looked a bunch of his movies and man, this dude does not get the recognition he deserves. No matter what movie he happens to star in, he always gives a good performance and is always pretty convincing as whatever character he plays. Not to mention he's the only actor I know, who doesn't stink in a movie with his lover (Goldie Hawn).

I would say Milla Jovovich is a pretty underrated actress; A lot of people write her off as some air-headed valley girl with modeling credentials and brief singing career, that and the Sci-Fi Action Actress (Resident Evil Trilogy and UltraViolet), but if you look at her more dramatic roles (after The Fifth Element), she truly gives you a great performance. I absolutely loved her in The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc. She even proves she's got comedic chops in the that indie movie, Dummy and bad comedy Zoolander.

I want to say Seth Green. There have been times i never really liked movies he's in..but even then he's still the highlight of the movie for me. I think he gets classified as always playing the "goofy sidekick" roles. But i think he is capable of so much more, once you sit down and have like a marathon of his shows and movies (which i have done multiple times haha). And i think he is underrated at a voice actor...all the voices he provides for animation are so great..i don't know how he can pull off that many different voices, and do them all well haha
