Johannes Gutenberg, inventor of movable type printing press. Before Gutenburg books had to be copied word for word by hand. Gutenberg made it possible to set up a page and copy on a printing press an infinite number of those pages. Before Gutenburg, the western world had about 10,000 books - all hand copied. After Gutenberg it had millions of books and the knowledge of all mankind could be shared all over the world. Everyone could own a book. Anyone who could read had access to all of the knowledge of mankind and libraries flourished. Newspapers were also possible sending CHEAP information to anyone who could read or knew somebody that could read it to them.
