Who are some good authors and poets to study and learn from to better my writing...

...abilities? I don't mean copy their styles or works, but to open up to a wider verizon of writing styles that I can adapt and familiarize with. I'm a huge fan of Mark Twain, I really enjoy his works.
Who else would be good to read? I'm very open, but they must have works printed in English.

P.S. Alfred Tennyson is another huge favorite of mine, as is Rudyard Kipling.
 
As far as improving your speaking, Churchill is fantastic. Read anything by him, and you'll find yourself a vastly improved orator for it. To read, Hemingway teaches you to convey meaning and descriptiveness without really any adverbs, Cormac MacCarthy writes amazing (but morose) stories, and will teach you to write without grammar (use grammar of course, but know how to write without it), and Vonnegut is the source of the quirkiness all modern authors seem to strive for. Some of my other favorites are Victor Hugo, Joseph Conrad and Charles Dickens. Read anything and everything. With the exception of today's tween garbage, you can improve your writing with anything you read.
