Whitney Murphy______1985-2004

I just found out one of my ex-coworkers son died on Saturday. He's not one of my closer friends but a good guy! Saturday Tom and Whitney went out to the local race track (dirt bikes) for a day of riding. This to Tom and Whitney was business as usual They would ride every weekend, father and son just the two of'em. Things are goin great bikes runnin good, no worries.
Well at some point in the day dad and son compete in the same race but different divisions. Before the race starts Tom looks at son and says "Take it easy on the old man", and they both laugh. Race starts, third lap gets red flagged (everyone off the track), Tom rides off and sees all the riders but Whitney, Turns his head and is waved to the far end of the track where his son's lifeless body lay! I'm not to sure of the accident or how he landed off the jump, but it was bad. When Tom approaches Whitney is not breathing, so frantically tom tries to resesitate and is successful but Whitney doesn't respond to anything. Airlift comes in and takes him to the local trauma center where surgery is performed and he is stabilized, and on life support!
Well on one day goes by while Whitney is in a coma it is also determined that he is brain dead. his brain does not respond to any thing, there is no activity of any sort.

What is the most fucked up part of this, is the fact of what Tom (father) is left with and the decision he is given! He is now responsible for deciding when to pull the plug and the donation of his organs. Whitney is brain dead so there is no coming back! So how does one deal? We have all dealt with death in some sort, but this hit me. Every where Tom goes there are constant reminders of his son. How do you go home to see that empty room? Or go back to work where you have a picture of your son on the wall hittin a bad ass jump? There is a long road ahead of Tom and I don't Know how he is going to deal with losing his closest companion at 19. You not suppose to bury your children, they bury you.

So all you people that say you hate your parents, remember who is always there for you. and think of Tom and his son!

My heart is with the Murphy family, and if you pray or whatever you do remember Tom tonight!

Thanks for listening,
Mike. :frown:

its a racers heart.

Sad part is you know the risk. So you step inside the car.... or on the bike and its that push that desire to win. that need....

nothing life nor death can keep you from it. I believe that if heaven does exist it has a special place for all its racers. Cause there is no glory and there is no fame for most that enter it and most that die. there is just that burning desire and need.... for that single checkered.

there is a racer pray that is said before each race its beens a few years but it goes something like

"Dear heavenly father, we thank you the time that you have given us. we ask that you keep all our drives safe and guide them through out these events and desire to win. We ask that you watch over our fans as well and take them into your hearts. .... i can not remember the rest."
