Whitechapel - Series 2

Thoroughly enjoyed this! It was dramatic, lighthearted, fast moving, humourous and I really enjoyed seeing the relationships between the team develop

Cant wait to see what they give us in series 3!

I thoroughly enjoyed it too - having suspended disbelief and parked my critical mind beforehand.

Can't help wondering which real life crimes they'll base Series 3 on (if there is a Series 3). Great Train Robbery maybe (though not as gruesome I know).

I can't watch Steve Pemberton in anything without thinking of Pauline & her Pens, and last night at one point I was sure he was about to say "in this howwwse...etc etc"

Oh, and it's freddie the dip, as his dad was a master pick-pocket.

Whitechapel is obviously a fantasy with no relation to reality at all. To enjoy it you have to go along with the scenario and forget about all the implausibilities. All cop shows leave real life a bit, but this one leaves the planet and is almost like science fiction in its unreality.

Glad this is back. Enjoyed series one and was eagerly awaiting series 2!

Good to see Rupert back on our screens. I too miss him on spooks! Thinkhe's quite good on this and good to see him playing a completely different character to Adam Carter. Steve Pemberton is brilliant! Can't help thinking of Tubbs when I hear him speak on this lol Love the way he talks and the creepy character he plays on this.

All in all this is looking like a good series. Good story which hopefully they will play out well. Good characters. Good casting. Phil Davis is brilliant in this IMO. Learnt some historical facts about The Ripper with the first series. Hopefully Ill pick up some historical facts on the Krays with this one. Already its got me looking on online to find out more about the real life events.

Roll on next week. Shame we only get three episodes at a time!

P.S :o I might be reading too much into this, but did anyone else hear an echo of Royston Vasey at the start of the episode when the following exchange happened between RAB Miles and Buchan:

RAB Miles: I don't even know what you're doing here. This is for Police for detectives

Buchan: Im a guest

RAB Miles: You are not a detective. You have no place at this table.

As soon as I heard it it rang of "What are you doing here. You are not local. This is a local shop for local people.." :D

At least that bit was supposed to be funny. :)

Completely agree. The first series even had a hint there could be something supernatural going on and, whilst not having that doesn't matter this time around it's the complete lack of tension that's disappointing.

I think you're being too kind. I feel they've tried to go for something dark and menacing - much like the first series which was enjoyably quirky - but have missed the mark with this one.

:D I have to admit I will watch the last episode too - I also need a recap of the last ten minutes of episode two because I fell asleep. :o

Phil Davis is one of my favourite actors, whatever he's in.

I wonder why the real 'The Grave Maurice' pub on the Whitechapel Road wasn't used? That was the genuine pub that the Krays used - the one shown tonight wasn't the real Maurice.

They've left it nicely. They can send Chandler off to all sorts of place for these so called "interesting cases" then when they decide not to make any more, our hero and the head honcho policeman will have a reckoning. And Chandler will be murrrrrrdured.

(Why yes, I am just off to watch Taggart on ITV3, does it show? :D)

I didn't see the first series, but this one looked promising , so I watched the first episode but gave up half way through the second. It is not meant to be comedy is it ? or is it?

They were checking out some guy who didn't move a muscle in 6 hours of survelliance, then and only then they went up to him and realised he was dead. And two guys are called the Kray twins on their patch and they've never heard of them!

If I can be bothered I might have another look , just to see how daft this gets.

Excellently put!

I'm fed up with the gritty realistic style cop shows. I love this kind of stuff, which seems almost set in an alternate reality, also resembles Life On Mars at times, which isn't a bad thing at all.
