Whitechapel - Series 2

I agree with the first bit; not so sure about the last.

It seems to be a cross between Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, The Crying Game and Raging Bull right now. Heaven knows what else is going to happen...

I'm one who doesn't really care if it's unbelievable; the show's itself is obviously a fantasy. I don't think it's trying to be anything it's not. To me it's a nice bit of escapism, and I'm really enjoying it.

I'm resurrecting this thread as Whitechapel scheduled for next Monday.

It will be interesting to see if this performs as well in the Monday slot as DCI Banks. I'm doubting that. Radio Times was quite scathing about episode 1 today. I've seen a few clips now and I'm not sure series 2 has the style of Whitechapel 1.:)

In the end, I quite liked it, and I'm glad about the ending,
that they really weren't related to the Krays and had been led to believe that they were by their mum

I actually preferred Steve Pemberton's character in this series to the first, despite the more tenuous link to him being a 'Krayologist'

It was out and out comedy last night! The Donkey in particular was a highlight.

The sense of menace that pervaded the first series has disappeared. The writers have gone for tongue-in-cheek seemingly because it's so far-fetched that they can't go any other route.

I for one, hooted with laughter throughout and will enjoy watching the last episode just to see how it all pans out. Only came second in the laughter stakes to Genius last night.

I was put off by the terrible trailers but curiosity got the better of me and I watched it on ITV Player. Totally bonkers, but thanks to a clever plot, witty script and well-judged performances it was surprisingly entertaining. And better than Spooks.

We were visiting my girlfriend's parents and were walking down to the shops when we saw a large crowd outside the cemetery gates. Being nosey we crossed the road to see what all the fuss was about and were told they were waiting for the arrival of Reggie Krays' funeral cortege, so we thought we'd stay so we could have a gawp.

Finally the horse-drawn carriage arrived carrying the coffin and the police had to move the hoi palloi from in front of the cemetery gates to allow the cortege and mourners through. There was a scuffle and somehow me and my girlfriend got pushed into the cemetery with the mouners and the gates closed behind us.

Never had we seen such a motley crew before  and we didn't have the nerve to say we weren't supposed to be there so we followed along and stood through the graveside service.

We only went out to get some milk.:D

I wasn't keen on the camera effects and thought that it was silly. I guessed the builders were involved when I saw them in the office. All very OTT and dramatic. Attempted style and very little substance.

First series was excellent. This? Hmm, it's ok if you don't take it remotely seriously. There's a lot in it that made me cry with laughter, but the LOL moment of the night went to Peter Serafanowicz beating his subordinate to a pulp IN HIS OWN OFFICE :D Yes ok... and why is Pemberton in this again? Is he now suddenly an expert on the Krays as well as the Ripper? Or just an expert on every single crime in pre-2010 London? Think this is better viewed as comedy rather than drama like the Beebs Luther.

Oh and kudos to the creators for cramming the most cockerney-hows your father-love my old mum-I was at Violet's funeral-you slaaaag villains into an hour episode in tv history.

I didn't hear what he was called (if anything) so it's a bit difficult to track down some of the less famous actors as they often don't have their faces on cast list links. I'll keep trying though.

I've never seen it before as I'm a bit bored of cop dramas as it's all we seem to get these days but must admit this one did look interesting with the Krays connection, I'll give it a watch.
