Whitechapel - Series 2

I'm loving the new series but agree that they can't continue the 'copy cat' theme if there's a 3rd series - it's suspending belief now (albeit entertainingly) but again? That would be ridiculous!

I suppose they went down the copy cat killer route again so they could keep the Steve Pemberton historian character, otherwise they might have had to get rid of him and he was one of the stars of the first series for me :)

Agreed.

It was a follow on from the last series and made perfect sense especially with the threats.

I personally don't see a problem with the sperm donation storyline. It's a drama and I'm enjoying it.

A bit type-cast - always plays a troubled, complex but forgivable villain or a good guy with a very dark side.

Does it very well though.

Does anyone else think that
the psycho copper played by Peter Serafinowicz will turn out to be another Kray sprog produced via the sperm bank? Definitely has the look of Ronnie Kray about him!

Me too - it was entertaining tosh and essential to the team's transition from 'copycat' investigators to being allocated 'interesting cases' in future series! :D

I enjoyed it. Wasn't as good as first series, but wasn't really expecting it to be better really. It's still a really good drama though, better than some of the other stuff around.

It did feel like it wasn't modern day, but that to me is a good thing, it felt murkier and reminded me a bit of Life on Mars at times, which can be only be a good thing.

Looking forward to the next episode. But I've still got loaRAB of dramas on the planner I need to watch! Single Father, the last episode of Sherlock, U Be Dead. Just havent had the time to watch them, there's so many good things on right now!

@scorpiogran - The policeman that was beaten up had accepted that the murderer who confessed was indeed the murdere whereas Phil Davis found out that the murder and his family had received a considerable amount of money. Hardly a reason to smash a picture frame in his face but Peter Serafanowicz is obviously a psycho, maybe he's even going to be the villain.

That actor who played the snooker hall owner, I don't think I've ever seen him act anything except villains. He's getting uglier as he ages, which is no doubt an advantage in his chosen profession.

Thanks for your reply. You're right there is nothing straightforward about Whitechapel. That is why I always record it so I can go back later to get things clearer.

The actor who owned the snooker hall is Andrew Tiernan. I remember him from a very early episode of Cracker where he played a man with a speech impediment who murdered for his girlfriend. He has put on a lot of weight since then.

Some of the lines were a bit clunky but on the whole I thoroughly enjoyed it. As enjoyable as the previous series so far.

Did noticed they showed a quick close up of one of the workmen, and I thought, he'll be the copycat! Then they showed him in the preview in a suit did they not, or was that a flashback? Someone correct me if I'm wrong :p

I've only recently caught up with the first series (on ITV3) and found it hugely enjoyable. For some reason, I'd missed the promos last year and gotten the impression it was period rather than modern somehow. Anyway, loved it - great performances (particularly Phil Davis' caustic RAB) and a gripping storyline. I look forward to the sequel - though I fear
The Krays
will not be as compelling a subject for me.

The juxtaposition of modern day and the era of JtR confused me in the first series, but I found it easier this time. Maybe because it is more up to date- relatively :D

I think it's a nice touch - the police station was very 60s but I've been into some offices in that area that are still like that now. :)

I've seen Andrew Tiernan as a police officer in something, possibly Blue Murder? But, I've seen mainly as the criminal in most things, him and Darren Tighe seem to get the weirdo roles.
