My understanding of this deal differs from yours. The Bush tax cuts aren't involved in this. And that will be decided after the next election when they expire or are renewed.
Even the tea party isn't retarded enough to demand that there be no deficit in 3 years. They're looking 7-8 years.
You'd probably have to do gradual debt reduction over the decade given the economic situation in the US. But $100B a year out of discretionary is meaningful. I don't think they're going to get to tackle much of SS/medicare right now. Not that they shouldn't in the future.
But they should at least look at making something of a deal to get some spending down (so long as they're real cuts) and then keep addressing the issue.
Honestly, for better or worse, I think this bodes badly for the democrats. I suspect the Obama supporters are more disappointed in this than the tea party people. My suspicion is that Obama will have a difficult re-election at best.
It ain't a done deal. Their bullshit TENTATIVE agreement was reached LATE last night. Wait for the US to wake up and hear about it, and then call in and say "Oh FUCK NO! You BETTER NOT vote on that."
You know that $1 trillion is probably still over 10 years right? No fucking way anyone up there has the balls to cut 1T from this years budget. And its probably still backloaded. Sorry but 100 billion or less in cuts per year doesn't mean fucking dick when you are deficit spending 1600 billion.
I'm just being honest with what I think. Despite trolling from time to time, I'm really not partisan. There are a few merabers here who actually know this to be true.
what a bunch of horseshit. the whole plan is to be able to increase the debt ceiling right now on the promise of cutting spending over 10 years. And to keep on doing this perpetually in order to keep raising the ceiling.
