I'm in the middle of a trip in my car and no where near my mechanic, so I'm looking for a general idea of what this may be.
I have a 2004 Ford Focus ZTS. When I'm at low speeds, I hear a monotonous whirring noise. Somewhat of an in-out-in-out whirring. As I speed up, it gets louder and higher pitched. It gets especially bad above 65 mph. But the whirring noise stays at the same tempo, doesn't speed up at all.
I had to speed up to 75 mph at one point, and I thought I might have heard a grinding noise. So I slowed down and stayed at about 65. The other problem is that it's causing my car to vibrate. I just feel like there is a lot more vibration throughout the car and, overall, the engine sounds much louder.
Any general ideas of what it might be? Sorry about the vague descriptions!
