Hmmm, I say some years in the 90s produced some great films:-
1992 : Howard's End, Unforgiven, The Player, The Crying Game, Reservoir Dogs, Bad Lieutenant, Man Bites Dog, Chaplin, Glengarry Glenross, Aladdin.
1994 : Pulp Fiction, Three Colours Red, Forest Gump(yes I know it is a bit soppy but it still has good points), Shawkshank Redemption, Quiz Show(very underrated film by Robert Redford), Four Weddings and a Funeral(yes it is a little corny in place, but it is one of Hugh Grant's best performances), The Madness of King George, Speed(I do like action movies as well, and this one was cleverly done), True Lies(again a great action film).
1999: American Beauty, The Insider, The Straight Story, The Sixth Sense, Being John Malkovitch, The Matrix, Fight Club.
I probably include 2000 as well:-
Memento; Traffic; Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon(best film of the 2000s in my opinion).
