Which type of Road bike should I buy?

Ok, I have been riding a Stationary bike for a while now and I am planning on buying a road bike.

I have never bought one and I have no clue what to get and which are the best.

I don't plan on riding in races or what not, just biking 20-30 miles a day.

The issue I am wondering about is I am 6'3" and about 255lbs. I dont know if a normal road bike would be the best for me? I have seen road bikes that have tires which are bigger than road ones but smaller than mountain bikes but im not sure what they are called.

I am looking to spend around 500 or so on a good bike.
I would appreciate any suggestions!

Thanks!

Fit is First. Go to your local bike shop and fnd out the size you need. Probably the largest.

They are unlikely to have a road bike in your price range, but you can ask questions, test ride some, and get a good idea what you need.

Then either find a used one, or shop at www.bikesdirect.com. Their's have good components and are priced right. Light assembly required.

Bikes are frames with attached components. If you ride enough, you'll begin to customize the components to match your riding style and needs. Nearly everyone does. You may not like the stock saddle, the bars, the wheels, the tires, the gear ratio's. Just about any thing you buy will need some dialing in.
