Which Tank to get for Cold Water Fish?

Can anyone help find or know of a cheapish (around the £50 mark roughly) tank for Coldwater Fish??

It's for our daughter who will be 8 years old soon.
I don't want to buy a cheap one that looks cheap! - ok they maybe designed for kids but I'm looking for a nice tank.

She likes the BiOrbs and so do I but I'm just wondering how safe they are i.e could it be knocked over as it will be in the girls room and I have 4 kids.

Websites and links would be nice,if possible.
Thanks

What kind of cold water fish? Goldfish? These guys get HUGE. An adult goldfish requires at least 20 gallons of water. If you're not wanting to go that big, I would recommend sticking with smaller community fish such as tetras, platies, mollies, etc. They do need a heater (which isn't too much of an additional cost depending on the size of the tank).

um you might be able to buy a 10-15g tank and get a small puffer in it but i recomend a 10-15g tamk with a heater you could get tetras, danios, my peresonal favourite a male and female blue ram, palatties, mollie, lobster ,shrimp lots of possibilities

BiOrbs are nice. I have a Baby BiOrb and its great. They aren't easily knocked over due to the weight and they are structurally sound. The acrylic is very thick and therefore safer than a lot of other acrylic tanks available.

The only drawback is that the filtration replacements are a bit pricey. Instead of replacing it with the kit I just wash out the sponge because it is still usable and use a bulk activated carbon and ceramic media which cuts the price.

You can have some minnows in there, just not goldfish.

i would recommend one of the 'all in one' aquariums for beginners- try 'pets at home', they usually have some good ones for kids, you could find their website on google. They have small rectangular glass tanks for around your budget. They look well when stocked & everything is in the hood so the kids dont need to be rooting around in the tank to get at the filter. If its for kids I would avoid underwater filtration, its too awkward. I got a small tank in pets at home that had a curved glass front but was very solid & stable. My brother also got a small octagonal one that was lovely & both are tanks were able to accomodate a heater for tropical fish so you'd have that option later if you wanted
