Which Symbian^3 is your favorite?

Im 50/50 between the n8 or the e7. I want the physical qwerty and 4" screen of the E7. But also want the camera +xenon of the n8.. decisions decisions... Ill make sure to try out both before i buy one

Sorry, but your whole argument basically boils down to the assumption that the only the thing that people value in their phones is the speed with which they perform a common set of tasks and that simply isn't true.

There is absolutely no way that a C6-01 and an N8 are interchangeable. They might be from the perspective of web browsing or game play. If that's all you plan to do with your telephone, in addition to calling, calendaring, social networking, etc., then they are interchangeable for you and anyone else with the same intent, but not for everyone.

If, on the other hand, you would like the N8's extended media capture and playback capabilities, its Xenon flash, its unibody aluminum chassis, its larger memory, etc., then they are not interchangeable.

The point people are trying to make and that you don't understand is that although these phones serve some common purposes and would fail to compete with high end phones in some of those common purposes, they might outcompete those same high end phones in other ways. The whole idea is that Nokia delivers different things to various groups of people who want those different things. I place a great deal of value on the N8's camera. Much moreso than the value that I would place on, for example, the Samsung Galaxy's larger screen or the fact that it's "faster" in some abstract sense I have not been able to observe.

You are not me and your generalizations do not hold true for me or across the board. You're basing your comments on generalizations of your personal opinions and value-assessments of features. You need to understand that these don't represent everyone on Earth.

Insofar as the actual camera specs are concerned, the N8 has the largest image sensor ever put into a mobile phone. It's a 1/1.83" sensor - this is larger than most point-and-shoot cameras. Only a few camera models like the Canon G-series have larger sensors. It's not a case of pixel pushing - it's the exact opposite. It's a focus on real image quality that is capable of delivering a true point-and-shoot replacement. That's an exceptional feature that sets the N8 apart from just about everything else in the market, and most certainly the C6-01.

Even though it carries the same battery as the n8, it still boast good battery life on paper. 5 hours of talk time and 17 days of standby. Also AMOLED is supposed to use less battery then conventional screens. I'm sure battery life will still be better then all those android phones, and if not buy a car charger and a charger for work. I've always had a charger at my house, car charger, and a charger at my desk at work so i never run into low battery problems...

i'm back to nokia. my trusty e71 kicks major ***. i still have the nexus one but will probably sell it very soon. as of now, i'm not 100% vested in an e7 or n8. i'd like to see the n9 or whatever it will be called and some meego goodness. touchscreen phones are really overrated. i like my nexus one, but it's cumbersome sometimes. the e71 is a pick up and go, go, go phone. the nexus and any other touch phone are swipe, tap, tap, swipe, tap ok you can go now. not to mention a couple of other problems outside of android like amoled. touchscreen kicks web browsing's butt like there's no tomorrow compared to a hardware only phone, but nonetheless, it works and reasonably. everything else is give and take. i really hope the n9 is something. the e7 and n8 have too much NOT going for them for me to give them a serious look as of now.

Touch screen phones for browsing are amazing. I still think touch screens with slide out QWERTYs are the best combo, although I am getting more and more used to on screen keyboards.

Like everybody else, I'm also quite interested in what the N9 has to offer... :buddies:

Honestly it is. Because speed rules. Nobody wants a slow phone or a slow computer. That's the market. Why do you think iPhone is now pushing a 1GHz A4 anyway? Why is every Android on a speed race? Its reflective of the PC and Mac markets. Speed rules. Everyone wants a faster PC, and you choose slow if you can't afford the price. Thus, you have a value triangle where speed and cost is proportional.

The reason why Nokia is in the rut nowadays is the sheer denial that speed isn't important. But the market says it is. Blackberry is also denying it too, and its profit margins are being hammered for it.

I find it funny that the fastest Nokia branded device is still something that was introduced last year. That's the N900.

Excuse me. But calling, texting, browsing, calendaring, emailing are by far the most used functions on a phone. By far for most people.

Larger memory is inconsequential if you got a micro SD slot. Unibody aluminum chassis, but then again, the C7 has a stainless steel body.

I'm not really sure---based on surveys---that camera is that important. Sucky cameras didn't stop iPhones and Blackberries from reaching the top of the value chain. Its always good to have a better camera, but a better OS, better and more apps, and a superior hardware environment---better processor and more RAM to work with, is much more paramount.

I do know people who do place a value on larger screens. It is not only easier to read but truly easier to type on and edit text.

No I'm not. I do take things like Nielsen and Comscore reports on how and what and where people use phones. I have not seen anything to suggest you need to have the best camera for by far, the way most people use their phones.

It really depends on the price separation between the N8, C7 and C6-01 price points. I don't think the N8 merits the position as a high end phone, but as a mid end phone it will be of great value.

Ok, First, IFH Apple. Nobody hates Apple more than i do. I just think since none of us got to try all 4 hands on, how can we pick, seriously ? I currently own an E71, which is by far, the best handset i've ever owned.

Ya it is when nobody got to try them hands on yet...

As painful as it may be, i'm gonna pass on all of these handsets & wait for the 1st or poss 2nd Meego device. It'll be well worth it....

Is that what the OP is asking?? He's just asking people to pick a favourite one based on the specs, reviews, and how good they look on paper.

and I see a contradiction here:

According to what you said, "nobody got to try them hands on yet." And you know you are going to pass on all of them??

Just read the interview with Peter Skillman over at Engadg (from a ZURB interview).
Interesting that the Godfather of the Palm Pre and WebOS is now a member of the Meego team; that makes me more excited for Meego.

Headline quote from his interview, that I'm paraphrasing: "If you don't have a good high end device, you're doomed to failure." Interesting tidbit: Nokia put him through nine rounds of interviews before getting hired. I'm sure he made his opinions known, so apart from what the company and its reps say in public, they must agree with him on some level.
