Which style of debate is (most similar to) the one used in the movie, 'The

Great Debaters'? When I watched the movie, 'The Great Debaters', back in 2007, I recall acknowledging that the style of debate used in the movie is extremely different than the format I used in my middle school. Recently, I joined the high school debate team at my school, which follows the Lincoln-Douglas format. Since, I have become rather curious as to what style of debate is used in that movie, and if the style was a made up one, which it was most similar to.
